There is a giant meteor heading straight for Earth, only this time there is no deep oil drill team led by Bruce Willis that can stop it. At least that is what you would think is happening judging from the reaction of the conservative right to the news of President Obama’s re-election.
Donald Trump did not miss an opportunity to post his dissatisfaction several times on Twitter, declaring the election as a “disgusting injustice.” In regards to the series of tweets, Trump told Bloomberg Buisnessweek, “I have no regrets.” Apparently he had a few. The Donald deleted multiple tweets of wisdom, including my favorite:

First, President Obama did win the popular vote. Second, is Trump leading the revolution? What positions would this hold for Kid Rock, Ted Nugent and Meatloaf?
One person guaranteed to join Trump would be Saturday Night Live alum Victoria Jackson… if she wasn’t already joining Original America, that is. My favorite right-wing celebrity nutjob posted on her website: “I think the red states should secede and create our own country called Original America.” Great name.
Of course, this is after she announced, “America died” on her Twitter account. However, not all of her comments were negative. Ms. Jackson thanked a faction of the population, tweeting: “Thanks a lot Christians, for not showing up. You disgust me.”
The insanity doesn’t stop with future Dancing With the Stars contestants; the National Rifle Association contributed their two cents into the crazy jar.
The NRA created a firestorm of fear among their followers by posting a Reuters article regarding the Obama administration’s involvement with the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty on their Facebook page.
To be clear, this is a treaty to prohibit illegal international firearms sales. It will not effect the 2nd Amendment or threaten current legal gun ownership in our nation. Here is a sampling of just some of the 5,000 plus comments posted to the article:
- They can come get my gun, I’ll give them the bullets first!
- Stock up on ammo… The day they come for our guns is the day America’s second civil war begins…
- Never…, I will never give up my weapons
- The time to shed the blood of tyrants is nearing.
- Obama like adolf Hitler .He’s Muslim lover wants to destroy USA Al Capone is nothing to him in crimes (sic)
- Better get your guns and ammo now!
And they will. Gun sales skyrocketed in 2008 after the election, due to the irrational fear (which the NRA clearly encouraged to increase sales) of an Obama administration restricting gun rights. Somehow gun owners are falling for the exact same trick again, even though gun rights have actually been extended under Obama.
Conservative radio host Vicki McKenna did her part to boost Christmas sales for the gun industry when she tweeted: “Buy guns.” Her follow-up tweet: “And ammo. Lots.”
Do you remember the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony Pledge that nearly every Republican candidate signed during the primaries? President of the Susan B. Anthony List Marjorie Dannenfelser said the following on Romney’s loss: “What we had, unfortunately, was a de facto truce on social issues.” Translation: Mitt Romney was not fucking crazy enough to our liking.
Bryan Fischer, Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association (labeled as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center), responded to the news of the President’s re-election with: “Today was Pearl Harbor. Tomorrow we begin planning for Normandy.”
It sounds like Mr. Fischer has everything in perspective.
The reveal of CIA Director David Petraeus’ extramarital affair on Friday has sparked a new conspiracy theory with which to attack the newly re-elected Obama administration. Conservative sites such as Godfather Politics (seriously check out their “Constitution” tab, it only lists the First and Second Amendments), suggest the former General resigned to prevent himself from testifying on the Benghazi terror attack.
I have already seen this nonsense pop up in social media such as Facebook. A more logical reasoning behind his resignation is if the affair began before taking on the position of CIA Director, the former General could be prosecuted by the military for adultery. Also, his resignation does not prevent him from testifying. He can still do so as a private citizen.
Associate Editor of the Washington Post Bob Woodward discussed this issue with host David Gregory on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday morning. Woodward mentioned that General Petraeus had been conducting his own “personal inquiry into Benghazi.” When asked by Gregory what this information would reveal, Woodward said: “I—I think it would essentially back up the White House.”
Why does the GOP think they lost the election? It depends on who you ask.
- Republican consultant Karl Rove would tell you President Obama suppressed the vote.
- Former Republican Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour revealed: “Hurricane Sandy saved Barack Obama’s presidency.” Who knew Sandy was even voting?
- Rush Limbaugh blamed voters who stayed at home.
- Fox News host Bill O’Reilly determined the loss was due to “fifty percent of the voting public who want stuff.”
- Radio host Mark Levin believes because the GOP has too many moderates and liberals (WTF?).
- Author and radio host Michael Graham explains because Obama convinced women they would be “forced into rape camps” if they voted Republican.
This past election year has shown not only has the nation’s demographics significantly changed, but how the GOP is out of touch with the majority of the American people on nearly every subject: contraceptive coverage, global warming, evolution, abortion, same-sex marriage, equal pay between sexes and raising taxes on the wealthy.
It no longer rewards the party to focus on the above as issues. This election has proven the numbers are no longer there.
I truly hope every conspiracy theorist, bigot, misogynist and insane person voted this election, because this is likely the last time they will be catered to.
Florida Representative and Tea Party rooster Allen West, who has had his share of insane comments and theories, lost his seat to Democrat Patrick Murphy (as of this writing West is refusing to concede).
Remember all the idiots that said something insensitive about rape or simply scientifically untrue about female biology?
Every single name listed above was voted out last Tuesday.
The Senate now has a record number of women serving. This includes Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono as the first Asian-American woman AND first Buddhist Senator, and the first openly gay Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin.
I can’t continue without mentioning Elizabeth Warren’s historic win as Massachusetts’ first female Senator.
Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said on Sunday, “to too many swing voters in the country, when you hear the word conservative now, they think of loons and wackos.”
If the GOP is smart, they will bring back the Republicans and finally shoo off the insane people using their party as if it were a jungle gym.
If not, prepare to lose in 2016 now.
