It’s disappointing that Marco Rubio’s water bottle grab is the most memorable moment from his GOP response to the President’s State of the Union Address, because his rebuttal was an excellent showcase of how out of touch with reality the Republican Party still is.

Mo’ Money
Last week, the nation watched as the President gave his first State of the Union Address of his second term.
Regular readers will know that I was a strong supporter of the President’s fully funded American Jobs Act. I could not have been more pleased to hear the bill return to the spotlight during last Tuesday’s address.
The Crazies
When speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, journalist and gun owner Tom Brokaw agreed with retired Army Gen. Stan McChrystal that “assault weapons do not belong in a civil society.” Brokaw added: “The response to that was, ‘I have to keep my weapon because the government is going to come and try to take it away from me and I have to be able to fight back when that happens.’ That’s the most far-reaching thing you can possibly imagine.”
It’s easy to see why gun owners like Brokaw are overshadowed in the national debate when you have such circus acts as Alex Jones and James Yeager taking center stage.
House Party
If the recent actions of the House of Representatives are a clue, the Republican Party has not learned a single thing from the 2012 election.
The Hard Way
After a week of no comments, the NRA finally released a statement regarding the horrific Sandy Hook shooting and their solution to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. They also revealed empathy is not a virtue among their organization’s leaders.
A History of Violence
There are still so many questions to be answered regarding yesterday’s horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. One thing I know for certain: our country needs a change.
The Cutting Edge
“Where are the President’s spending cuts?” asked House Speaker John Boehner on the House floor Tuesday in response to the President’s plan to handle the fiscal cliff. Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele further explained House Speaker Boehner’s questioning: “As the Speaker said today, we’re still waiting for the White House to identify what spending cuts the President is willing to make as part of the ‘balanced approach’ he promised to the American people. The longer the White House slow-walks this process, the closer our economy gets to the fiscal cliff.” That sounds serious. It’s a good thing the proposed cuts were explained in detail… last February.
My Right Foot
Before originally moving to the West coast, I worked for years as a Vocational Instructor to people with disabilities. To this day it has been one of the most rewarding professional experiences I have ever had. One of my first jobs upon arriving in California was as a Community Advocate for people with disabilities. So, you can imagine my reaction at the news that the Senate Republicans blocked the ratification of a U.N. treaty regarding the rights of the disabled.
Cliffhanger
There hasn’t been a bigger dick-measuring contest in Washington since the raising of the debt ceiling last year when it comes to the fiscal cliff.
The start of 2013 will see an end of the Bush tax cuts for all incomes, a lapse in the AMT patch and the beginning of spending cuts under the Budget Control Act of 2011, a combination that many believe could put the nation back into a recession unless action is taken now.
Armageddon
There is a giant meteor heading straight for Earth, only this time there is no deep oil drill team led by Bruce Willis that can stop it. At least that is what you would think is happening judging from the reaction of the conservative right to the news of President Obama’s re-election.
