We aren’t at the conclusion of a Tarantino-worthy Mexican stand-off yet, but thanks to Saturday’s South Carolina GOP primary, we now have a clearer picture of who will be left to face off before the end credits roll.

At age 79, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away of natural causes. Scalia’s influence and decision making within the Supreme Court has had a dramatic impact on our society.
Appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, Scalia was the first Italian-American to join the Supreme Court. However, the country may have been better served if Stallone’s Marion ‘Cobra’ Cobretti had been appointed instead.

Last week was the final GOP debate before today’s caucuses in Iowa. However, the biggest winner from Thursday’s debate may have been someone who didn’t even show up.

Governor Nikki Haley’s GOP response to this year’s State of the Union was a reminder hers is the party of “personal responsibility.” This is a mantra that has felt at times abandoned by its representatives; seemingly replaced with “Thanks, Obama.”
There was no mention of bread bags or desperately drinking from a water bottle as if she were a rescued castaway off “Gilligan’s Island.” This was the best GOP response in years.

It’s standard procedure for the NRA to attack any form of common sense gun reform on the national stage. The lobby group is notorious for often using fear-mongering tactics, misinformation and outright lies as talking points, which are often repeated by gun advocacy groups on the state level.
Late last year, one such group used these tactics in my home state of Iowa.
“You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.” This quote is attributed to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto during World War II, and is often repeated by gun advocates as to why the Japanese never invaded the U.S. It’s also bullshit.
There is no record of Admiral Yamamoto saying this, which means extreme gun advocates are in need of an authentic quote for their latest social media memes. Thankfully, I have one in mind.
Since July, the GOP has been parroting the lie that Planned Parenthood has sold the body parts of aborted babies for profit. Based on debunked undercover videos from anti-abortion group the Center for Medical Progress, the Republican-controlled House even went as far to open an investigation against the healthcare provider (predictably finding no misuse of federal funding).
Now the rhetoric from the right is proving to have truly disastrous consequences.
Last week, I compared the leading GOP candidates’ responses of the Syrian refugees to the social media postings of your crazy Tea Party-loving uncle.
What a difference a week makes. These guys belong inside a cell between Miggs and Hannibal Lecter at the Baltimore State Hospital.
Last Friday night, Paris was attacked by three cells affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS, resulting in the country’s worst wave of violence since World War II.
As we learn more of the tragic events and the perpetrators themselves, many of the GOP presidential candidates intensified their rhetoric for the U.S. to cease accepting Syrian refugees.
The candidates’ comments blur the line between what you would expect from a presidential nominee and memes your crazy uncle posts on Facebook.
